Discovering Lavarone
In the spectacular setting of the Dolomites, Lavarone is one of the four Alpe Cimbra municipalities: here, breathtaking landscapes and unspoilt nature blend with history, curious facts and ancient traditions. It’s a place with an illustrious history and was one of the Viennese aristocracy’s favourite destinations during the Belle Époque, with lots to offer and activities for adults and children, in every season.
This is a borderland dotted with military fortifications, like the Forte Belvedere Gschwent, one of the best-preserved Austro-Hungarian fortresses, now the home of an innovative Museum dedicated to the First World War, which is also able to attract children’s attention with its multimedia installations.
The pearl of the Lavarone plateau is its lake with crystal clear waters and Blue Flag certification, with two well-equipped lidos and paths through the greenery. In winter, the frozen lake becomes a skating rink in an enchanting snowy landscape.
An attraction not to be missed by families is that of the delightful themed trails. The Respiro degli Alberi (Breath of the Trees) is a captivating Land Art itinerary: numerous sculptures are dotted along the path and blend with the landscape, creating a magical atmosphere. The Sentiero delle Sorgenti (Path of the Springs) is a walk for discovering ancient fountains and springs, accompanied by illustrated panels that tell stories and provide curious facts. Quattro salti nel bosco (outings in the woods) is a circular itinerary allowing you to discover the animals that inhabit the forest, with fun riddles to solve. Lastly, the Sentiero del Drago (Path of the Dragon) takes you as far as the impressive and symbolic 7-metre-high sculpture.
