Verona Arena legend

arena verona leggendaLegends from Veneto.
"Who knows how long did it take they to build it?" all the people asks in front of the magnificent Verona Arena.
"One night”, argue some inhabitants of Verona, who want not to joke, but to tell tourists a legend that so begins: once upon a time...

there was a rich man who, imprisoned and sentenced to death because of an infamous accusation, no longer expected to be saved.
On the eve of the execution he received in his cell the visit of the devil in person and, from him, a strange advice.
Being the biggest desire of the inhabitants of Verona to have a huge theater, building it he would have had freedom.
The offender noted that no human being would be able of such an exploit in the short time of one night.
So saying, however, he fell into the trap of the devil, that he would be successful, and would have erected the huge building right during that night, on condition that...
As the rich gentleman had sold his soul to the devil, a thousand demons began feverishly working to build an enormous theater.
Soon regretted the damned agreement, the man, desperate, addressed to the Vergin to ask her for forgiveness and spent in prayer his last night.
Shortly before dawn, while demons were about to complete the work, suddenly the Angelus bells dispelled a still dark sky.
Touched by the sincere repentance of the convicted, the Virgin had sent her angels to stop the work.
A huge amphitheater was rising in the city, beautiful but unfinished, and sanctioned the defeat of the devil, the realization of the desire of the inhabitants of Verona and the release of the rich gentleman.
Still today, from the first century AD, the Arena stands majestic and, with Romeo and Juliet, mades famous in the world the beautiful Verona.
Built in one or in a thousand nights, the Roman amphitheater is beloved by the little angels on holiday in Veneto in our family hotels.
Little devils immediately notice that of the original exterior walls only remain four monumental arches... it is the sign of time passing and of legends that remain.
