Those who decide to spend their holidays in the Province of Salerno will certainly be charmed by the Cilento region, an area full of contrasts, from the crystal-clear waters of its coastline to its sweet rolling hills covered with olive trees and the uncontaminated nature of the Cilento e Vallo di Diano National Park. The Cilento coastal area starts at Agropoli and ends at Sapri and includes quite a variety of seaside amenities. Marina di Pisciotta (in the Province of Salerno) is among the most charming destinations along the Cilento coast. The municipal district of Pisciotta stands out for its beautiful territory. Its varied beaches are all characterised by clear clean water. There are beaches formed by pebbles, so-called agliaredde, like Gozzipuodi and Acqua Bianca, which owe their names precisely to the clearness of the sea allowing the uncontaminated seabed to be admired. Numerous municipal districts in Cilento have been awarded the Blue Flag and Legambientes sails. The beaches further south after the hamlet of Caprioli have very fine sand. In addition to the fishing boats, summer is a time for the residentsҒ pleasure boats and an increasing number of yachtsmen in transit. Torre di Pisciotta (Pisciotta Tower) rises almost as if to guard the natural beauties of the seaside. This 16th-century fortification was built to defend against Saracen raids.
Cape Palinuro rises just 8 kilometres from Marina di Pisciotta and is the ideal place for scuba divers, thanks to its 32 underwater caves and areas. There is a diving centre precisely in Marina di Pisciotta, which is open to everyone even the youngest of enthusiasts. It offers marine biology courses and snorkelling excursions. For those who love excursions and more peaceful places, tourists looking to discover hidden coves and small caves can board one of many boats at the Pisciotta harbour. Generally, the entire Cilento coast is still a natural and uncontaminated environment characterised by hills, rivers and paths. It is the ideal place for enthusiasts of outdoor walks and trekking. Local Cilento cuisine is based on many typical products which can be tasted during fairs and festivals organised especially during the summer. Nature continues at the seaside. The Cilento National Park provides a unique landscape and numerous traces of speleological sites, such as the Castelcivita Grottes and Grotta dell'Angelo di Auletta/Pertosa (Pertosa Grotte) ֠grottos. Tunnels, underground passages and immense caverns: their atmosphere makes them unique to the world, truly charming for their beauty and the shapes of their stalactites and stalagmites. The Cilento area is also home to two archaeological sites which together with the excavations of Paestum, constitute the jewel in the crown of the Province of Salernos history: the archaeological excavations of Velia, with its renowned Porta Rosa (Pink Gate), and those at Antica Volcei in the district of Buccino.
In addition to the Cilento region, Campania boasts other extremely beautiful locations greatly valued abroad, such as the Amalfi coast and its striking town of Positano - one of the most charming tourist destinations in the world. This region encompasses extraordinarily beautiful scenery. In the summer, Salerno is linked to the towns along the Amalfi coast by several ferries while providing tourists with unique scenes as they catch a glimpse of towns perched on sheer cliffs overlooking the crystal-clear sea. The region of Agro Nocerino Sarnese is located amidst the Lattari and Picentini mountain chains along the plains of the Sarno River in Ҡthe province of Salerno. It is the ideal holiday location for those who love gourmet tourism as the small villages in the Picentini Mountains are some of the most important representatives of the entire Province of Salerno: fine meats, cold-cuts, cheese and especially chestnuts, hazelnuts, mushrooms and truffles are the protagonists of traditional dishes from the Picentino area. They can be savoured in the numerous local restaurants, but also during the frequent festivals organised to promote the areas delicacies.
