Useful gifts for the birth of a baby |
|
New arrivals have many needs; thank goodness for family and friends who long to give the perfect gift. Which gifts make the most sense? Best for all: The baby gift list What to do as the gift giver when there is no baby gift list and you’d like to spare the new parents the third music box with rock-a-bye baby?
Something practical is the trump card
Something useful is good and practical: parents of newborns need endless nappies, wet wipes, baby bath, good creams… you can never give enough of these. (Nappies can be larger; they will surely be used eventually.) Inexperienced parents will be thankful for the sample tube of the best nappy cream, which you as experienced mother can recommend. Packaged nicely, even this “boring” gift will be appreciated.
Always again appreciated and very practical: a gift certificate for a baby shop or department store that sells a wide variety of baby items. Make sure it is good for an unlimited time, it will certainly come in handy with time as seasons change and new parents realize what they need for their new arrivals.
Gifts for Mums and Dads
Keeping the interests of the new parents in mind can lead to a playful gift idea. Perhaps Dad is a football fan and would be thrilled with a dummy decorated with the logo of his favourite club? Or Mum loves a certain clothing brand and would love to see her newborn in a like outfit or in 2 sizes bigger to fit at 6 months? How about a visit to a professional photographer; for a special first family portrait?
All parents would be pleased with a concrete offer of help: offer to cook one or two meals for the entire family in the first few weeks. Give a voucher for free babysitting or two hour break while you take the baby on a walk with the pram? Even if they are weary of leaving their tender new-born, within a few weeks or months the stressed parents will surely take you up on your offer.
