Teens, Privacy Rules and Social Networks |
If young people wanted yesterday a reckless life, now they seem to say “I want a life in the window”. And for this they meet on Facebook to publicize what they are doing right now.One would breathe a sigh of relief. Except that this life in the window ends up being reckless too. If Italy Family Hotels arouse your suspicions is because often teenagers, as skilled netizens (citizens at the time of the web), exploit the relational opportunities of the web with a light heart. They upload videos, tag photos, confirm participation in events, share infos such as email, home address, the school attended... maybe without setting the privacy rules of social networks. And parents? A survey of Trend Micro, a company specializing in Internet content security, underlines that the concerns of parents about their children’s use of the web are quite high (4.38 on a scale from 1 to 5) only for children under the age of 10 years, but down (3.5 out of 5) with the older children. That already at 10 years surf the Internet mostly alone (80%) and are largely convinced that their parents would not approve of the way they use the web... if they say so, we should be encouraged to assess whether our confidence is well placed. Not against privacy, but in the name of privacy!
