Is the Caesarian section necessary?

A lot of children born still today with the Caesarian section. In Italy, above all, there are every year a lot of caesarian parts, even more than in whole Europe. But when the Caesarian section is it really necessary? Which are the reasons that bring to surgically intervene at the end of a pregnancy?
