Parental leave in Italy |
In Italy working fathers are up, that abstain from work to spend full time with their children, protected by the new law on parental leave (legislative decree n° 151 March 26, 2001, in accordance with art. 15 of Law n° 53 March 8, 2000).If in the past the working mothers benefited only 5 months of the compulsory maternity leave, or alternatively the working fathers benefited 3 months of the paternity leave, now both parents can apply for optional parental leave. The parental leave has a limit of 6 months for the mother, and of 6 months that can be 7 for the father (if he has made the paternity leave). Parental leave can be continuous or split, and can be requested up to child's 8 years. If received by both parents, it has a limit of 10 months (11 if the father stay at home at least 3 consecutive months). The parent receives 30% of the salary only for the first six months of the parental leave. A little in the opinion of Italy Family Hotels ... But this summer on the first page of the bills that the Chamber of Deputies has in discussion there is a good news: as in most European countries, also the Italian neo fathers could soon enjoy a mandatory paternity leave, with 4 days that will be free and paid, immediately after the birth of the child. We hope that the gestation of this bill is successful... to strengthen the role of the father to protect the health of baby and mother !
