Smurfs' Birthday |
You would not say it, but Smurfs celebrate 50 years! The small blue things, with a large nose and a white hat, were born from the pencil of the Belgian draughtsman Peyo in 1958: they were secondary characters of a comics series named Johan and Peewit. The invention of the blue people had lot of success and they quickly became protagonists of mini albums and comics series. The true launching of Smurfs was the series of cartoon produced by Hanna&Barbera since 1981. Everyone knows Smurfs, Papa Smurf, Brainy Smurf, Sweepy Smurf, Smurfette, the only girl of the village...100 Smurfs in their Smurf village... always menaced by Gargamel and its cat! From January till October, a lot of events and appointments take place to celebrate in the 50 "Smurfs'Birthday" in all Europe in collaboration with UNICEF. Overall, a moving event which describes the origins of these amusing creatures, who quickly changed the life of their creator. Peyo, from simple illustrator, became initially graphic director, then draughtsman of cartoons and finally an engaged businessman to protect and take care of Smurfs destiny.
