Boccaccesca Festival

1 – 2 October 2011
8 – 9 October 2011
Certaldo
As well as being a wonderful storyteller, Boccaccio was also a great gourmet. Inspired by his love of food and by the famous story of Chichibio and the Crane, Certaldo holds a celebration of good food and flavours known as the Boccacesca event.
This amazing food and wine festival fills the streets, squares and buildings of the town and features wine-tastings in “the Village of Bengodi”, and cooking courses which reveal the “Secrets of the Chef”. There is also the “Chichibio Prize”, a special competition for hotel schools from all over Italy, which are constantly producing new talents. The participants are asked to invent a new dish based on a theme assigned by the organizers. There are many different events including food stalls and exhibitions of traditional craftsmanship associated with the table. However, there is not just food on offer, but also books, with a special bookshop dedicated to cooking and to books featuring food. A literary award, the Boccaccesca Prize is given to the top-selling book of the year whose theme is food and flavours. And for children there is “Stories at Break-time” with the Black Dragon Company, who recount fairy-tales together with games and activities. One can truly say there is something to please everyone over the four days of the Boccaccesca.
