Toy History

The origins of the toy is very old.
The first toys built for children go back to the Greek, Roman and Egyptian populations.
The reproduced subjects were musical instruments, animals and weapons.
The first dolls appeared successively and belong to Peruvian civilization.
The first automatic toy, with springs and wheels, was invented by Archimedes, Greek mathematics and studious. Till Middle Ages, the materials used were poor materials, fired clay, iron, copper and tin.

It is only in the 15th century, that, in Germany, Norimberga, was born the first toy factory. Even if every toy was hand-crafted and made of wood, cloth, iron and tin.
Here in Norimberga, every year takes place the largest world fair of the toy.

Starting from the first half of 19th century a true worldwide industrial production starts.
During the 20th century, plastic and gum were discovered, first comics and cartoons appeared. Those new discoveries radically changed the world of play: either dolls or small soldiers, but characters of cartoons and heroes of the cartoons.
Even to produce the toys men resorted to the most sophisticated technology.

Toy evolution reflect technological change of our society: plastic instead of porcelain, electronic batteries instead of springs.
Then, the computer and with it, videogames, console, joystick…
The first videogames company was Atari, in the United States in 1970. Since, toy history is moving.
