For some years, also in Italy, witches, ghosts, little devils and other strange creatures of the night have their own festivity. It occurs October the 31st and is called Halloween. Pagan rite born in Ireland at the time of Celtics, it took up the community in night dances around a fire to frighten evil spirits at winter’s arrival.
Today what only remains of druids’ tradition is the custom to wear terrifying masks. Halloween has become in the Anglo-Saxon and in the American culture the celebration of the "Trick or treat", the stornello that children use knocking on neighbors’ doors to invite them to the merrymaking at the eve of All Saints' Day. A sneering pumpkin, lit by a candle inside, guides them in the night, and evokes Jack the lantern, old Irish blacksmith who, in rancour with the devil for an outstanding bill, is condemned, by death, to wander for eternity. The European teenagers have discovered the irresistible tradition of Halloween through the American television films. Today the most terrifying treat of the year is beloved in Italy and has conquered all Italy Family Hotels . In our family hotels feverish preparations are being made for Halloween 2008. The funniest witches of the city have been contacted, the biggest pumpkins booked and some frightening parties organized. Old sheets have been recycled for the most phantasmagoric costumes, and blunt scissors have been bought to create with our little guests masks and decorations. New plates, such as "vampire room” and “skeleton hall", are about to rename our interiors, and an horror section, to be seen together courageously, is about to enrich our libraries and video libraries. Our barmen are promising special elixirs, and chefs are talking about pumpkins for the menu but they make a mystery out of other ingredients. While our cleaning women are dusting the skeletons in the cupboard and our animators are preparing the treat, our mascots have confided to us that something strange is to happen... Is this a trick? Come and see! arininchi
