The discipline of yoga is of great help to live in harmony the period of gestation, and if practiced since the beginning it reduces the terrible nausea of the first months! The fundamental exercises are based on techniques of breathing, pranayama, and on postures or positions, asana. A conscious breathing acts positively on the entire body: it reactivates blood circulation, regularizes the heartbeat, cleans the lungs and makes back muscles more tonic. On psyche it has a relaxing, stabilizing and antidepressant effect. Among the asanas, stretching positions are good to strengthen the back and to open the chest. They thus prevent back and sciatic pains and ease legs. The balance positions help to regain the lost centre of gravity and, with it, emotional stability. The rooting postures avoid circulation disorders in the legs and build up their muscles. Strengthening the contact with the earth and with reality, the future mother descends from the moon where she was wandering and she feels more aware of her forces. The upturned postures, at the wall, improve circulation and respiration, reduce the swelling in the legs and help digestion. The positions of the opening of pelvic girdle relax the basin and increase the elasticity of the perineum so important to reduce the pains of labor.


If you have not already experienced yoga it is advisable to practise it with a master. Breathing in alternating nostrils, the dog who stretches, the tree, the mountain, Ananta and other asanas make really sweet the expectation and the future mother will have transmitted the reached sense of wellness and of calm also to the child.
