Sun and bone health

vacanza in famiglia The vital lift that we have when we return in town after a holiday by the sea comes from a series of factors.
Among these, the beneficial effects of exposure to the sun play a key role giving us a better look and a feeling of well-being.
If immediately we notice it less, the sun is also important for bone health.

The sun's rays in fact act on bony structure because they allow vitamin D to form.

Essential for fixing the calcium in bones, especially in the delicate period of growth, this important vitamin is partially absorbed through foods (milk, butter, eggs, meat) and is partly synthesized by the body.

Its peculiarity is that it needs the sun to form.

It is only through exposure to ultraviolet rays that the complex process of photosynthesis that transforms provitamin D into active vitamin takes place.

So exposure to sunlight becomes essential to bone health, particularly in the early years of life, when there is the most significant bone growth and the body has a greater need of vitamin D.
Closely linked to vitamin D deficiency is rickets, a clinic disease today, fortunately, increasingly rare, at least in the Western world, thanks to the improvement of living conditions.

But even in Italy, without going too back in time, when our grandparents were young, it was not unusual to see children with deformed chest or disharmonious limbs growing in dark and unhealthy environments.

For bone health and to help the growth of the child a rich and balanced diet throughout the year and the sun and the sea in summer are therefore fundamental.

Now that rigours of winter have passed, smeared an adequate protection cream, let’s bring the child on the beach to play and to to fill up vitamin D.
